The Hepatitis Control Report is a quarterly newsletter devoted to news on the public health control of viral hepatitis. Its mission is to provide accurate and balanced reporting of developments in hepatitis epidemiology, control programs, and public policy.

The Report was published from the Spring of 1996 to the Winter 2002 and distributed to 15,000 U.S. practitioners in infectious disease and public health through educational grants from SmithKline Beecham Pharmaceuticals and Merck & Co., Inc. 

The Report is not affiliated with its sponsors or any other public or private entity. Sponsors are not involved in writing or editing the publication, and sponsorship does not imply endorsement of any of the information presented.

The editor of the Report is Dr. Frederic E. Shaw, an epidemiologist who has been involved in hepatitis control research since the mid-1980s. He served as Staff Epidemiologist at the Hepatitis Branch, NCID, CDC in 1983-87 and in subsequent positions in government and private industry. He was Assistant Commissioner for Policy and Planning, Texas Department of Health before returning to the CDC's Division of Viral Hepatitis as Associate Director for Global Activities in January 2002.

All articles are reviewed by the Report's editorial advisors, Dr. Fernando A. Guerra, Director of the San Antonio (Texas) Metropolitan Health District, and Dr. William Schaffner, II, Chairman of the Department of Preventive Medicine at Vanderbilt University. The report is published by Vasil J. Pappas, Jr., and Precision Media Works in Bala Cynwyd, PA.
